Top 9 first dance requests

Settling on a first dance choice can be tricky.  I have put a list together of our top 9 favourite first dance requests that we have performed at Weddings.
As I write this I remember playing all of these songs so clearly, the first dance at a wedding is such a special moment. I feel privileged to be able to witness so many.

1. 'Les Fleurs' Minnie Ripperton (check out our version above)

We loved playing this track so much, we included it in one of our promotional videos a few years ago. A little left field for a first dance, but it brings the house down on gigs. We now often play it at the end of the night.

2. 'Midnight At The Oasis' Brand New Heavies

I particularly enjoyed performing this with Funky Buddha band on bass as it is the only first dance I've played that features a bass solo!

3. 'It Must Be Love' Madness

Beautiful song from great band Madness. It suited our line up as it includes horns. Originally written by Labi Siffre in the 1970's.

4. 'Let's Stay Together' Al Green

Great classic crafted song. We often play it as our very last song to finish the evening.

5. 'Is This Love' Bob Marley

Bringing the reggae vibes to the dance floor! Great track from Maryley's 1978 album 'Kaya'.

6. 'Latch' Sam Smith

A more contemporary piece, beautiful song from Sam Smith / Disclosure.

7. 'Beast Of Burden' Rolling Stones

Rock classic from the Rolling Stones. Rolling Stone magazine rated it as one of the top 500 songs of all time.

8. 'Africa' Toto

We were delighted to be asked to perform this live for our clients. Superb choice and it brought the house down on the night.

9. 'You Got The Love' Florence and the Machine (see our version below)

This version has become a staple in Funky Buddha's set list. A great first dance and also a great set closer!
